Support Coronavirus Research

Your support for research on COVID-19 will accelerate the development and delivery of the therapies and vaccines we need, not just against SARS-CoV-2 this year, but other viruses and other diseases that will inevitably emerge.

The La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI) is home to the Immune Epitope Database, which hosts the world’s most comprehensive collection of immune targets and allows researchers to scan thousands of epitopes and apply machine learning to determine potential therapeutic targets.  Moreover, Dr. Saphire has overseen the building of a state-of-the art cryo-electron microscopy and antibody discovery facility that can reveal at a molecular level which parts of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, are most vulnerable to immune response or new drugs. Other laboratories at LJI are developing new vaccines and building research and health capacity in parts of the world that may be hit hardest by COVID-19. But this research costs money, and not everything, especially on a completely novel virus, is covered by prior grants. We need your help for critical supplies and to bridge the gaps.
